NATIONAL SCHOOL OF DRAMA (NSD), NEW DELHI

The National School of Drama (NSD), Delhi is one of the premier institutes for theater training and dramatic studies.
The National School of Drama is an open institution and was established in 1959.
Which was developed by Sangeet Natak Akademi. The National School of Drama started a repertory company founded in 1964 with four artists, such as Mr. Ramamurthy, Ms. Meena Williams, Ms. Sudha Shivpuri, and Mr. Om Shivpuri. It became an independent institute in 1975. In 1989, the institute established a theater-in-education (TIE) company, known as Sanskar Rang Toli. The institute is known as the best and only drama institute in India. Besides, the institute includes a studio theater and an open-air ‘Meghdoot’ theater. In 1999, the institute organized its first National Theater Festival, Bharat Rang Mahotsav.

The institute’s professional performance group was developed in 1964. It aims to encourage professional theater in India. There are three auditoriums within the campus of the institute, such as Sammukh auditorium, Abhiman auditorium and Bahumukh auditorium. The publication unit of the National School of Drama is responsible for the publication of textbooks on theater, the arrangement of translation of important books on theater from English into Hindi and the introduction of other important books on theater. The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) is a highly ranked institute offering a wide range of courses in various aspects of television and film industry. It was earlier known as ‘Film Institute of India’. In 1971, FTII came to be known as ‘Film and Television Institute of India’ (FTII) and soon started an in-service training program for India’s public broadcaster Doordarshan. The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) was established by the Government of India in 1960 on the premises of Prabhat Studio, predecessor of Pune.

The television training wing was initially operated in New Delhi but was shifted to Pune in 1974. It is administered by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The organization is a member of the global organization, named the International Lawson Center of Schools and Cinema and Television (CILECT).

The FTII campus is currently located in the grounds of the former Prabhat Studio. Prabhat Studio was a pioneer in the film production business and moved from Kolhapur to Pune in 1933. The archaic studios of the time, which were the production base for Prabhat’s films, still exist and are being used for FTII. Prabhat’s old studios are now heritage structures and FTII students continue to work in the world’s oldest working film shooting studio.

The present-day FTII campus was bought back by The Prabhat Film Company in 1933. The company was founded in 1929 in Kolhapur and shifted to Pune after 4 years. A stellar and leading film company of its time, it produced many important and prestigious films, such as ShajariSant Dnyaneshwar and Sheyandri, the only color film made by Prabhat. The legacy of this prestigious studio was, at the time, it was Asia’s largest film studio. The productions produced by Prabhat Film Company in its production included 45 films made in both Marathi and Hindi languages.

Today, FTII is globally recognized as a center for excellence in audio visual media and is one of the best film institutes in India.   1. In case of ICCR Scholarship Candidates: Candidates can apply through the Indian High Commission/Embassy as
    the case may be in their respective countries to ICCR, Government of India and then ICCR will forward the
    application to FTII Pune. Candidate may please look for ICCR A2A scholarship portal for ICCR application form.
    Candidates are also required to fill up the application form of FTII(available on FTII website) and upload the same
    along with the scan copy of educational certificates – Secondary, Senior Secondary (10+2), Degree certificates etc.
    and other related documents (if any) to ICCR portal.
  2. It may please be noted that, medium of instruction at FTII is English.
  3. Candidates must submit credentials regarding his/ her knowledge of English Language – English as one of the
    subject at Senior Secondary level(10+2) or IELTS or TOEFL or equivalent certificate.
  4. While submitting the application form of FTII, candidates need to paste his/ her recent colour passport size
    photograph (not earlier than three months from the date of application) with clear front view of the candidate
    without cap and sun glasses.
  5. Admission of candidate will be purely provisional and the decision of FTII in all matters relating to eligibility,
    acceptance or rejection of the applications and all other matters related to admission process will be final and
    binding on the candidates. No enquiry or correspondence will be entertained in this connection. Any dispute in
    regard to any matter referred to herein will be subject to the jurisdiction of Pune Courts alone.

RESERVATIONS:

As per the legal requirements, 15% of the seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC), 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates, 27% of seats for Other Backward Classes candidates belonging to the “Non-Creamy” layer (NC-OBC), and 5% for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwD).

“Specified disability” means the disabilities as specified in the Schedule of the RPwD Act 2016. The categories of disability are:

a) blindness and low vision,
b) deaf and hard of hearing,
c) locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy,
d) autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability and mental illness, and
e) multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses (a) to (d).
f) other ‘specified disabilities’ mentioned in ‘The Schedule’ of the RPwD Act 2016.

The candidates belonging to the reserved categories need to also note the eligibility requirements carefully before applying. It should be noted that while it is the endeavor of the Institute that the candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD/NC-OBC categories join the programme in proportions mandated by the law, they have to meet the minimum eligibility criteria and a certain minimum level of performance to be considered for the admission process. The candidates should read the updated description of selection process followed by the institute in its prospectus and websites.

ADMISSION:

Candidates in the selection list must submit an affidavit on a non-judicial court paper at the time of admission.

Candidates who have already been admitted to any institution affiliated to other universities/ working in an organization will be required to produce a withdrawal/resignation/No Objection Certificate from the institution/organization concerned at the time of admission to SRFTI. If they are unable to submit it at the time of admission, they may apply to the Dean for extension of time. Under no circumstances such candidates will be allowed to submit the “withdrawal certificate/ cancellation certificate” after one week of commencement of session. No students are allowed to be engaged academically or professionally to any educational/ occupational institute or organization during the academic tenure.

Provisional admission of the candidates who fail to submit withdrawal certificate/ cancellation certificate within the stipulated date will be cancelled.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS:

There is a provision for enrolling 2 (two) FOREIGN STUDENTS in each discipline under Postgraduate Programme in Cinema. These students are to apply through Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR); accordingly they should get in touch with the Indian Embassies in their countries of origin. Candidates are required to submit credentials regarding his/her knowledge of English Language.
